french grey coffee table

I finished this delightful little coffee table yesterday
and I was going to take some great outdoor shots of it in my paddock,
but it was so hot and I couldn't be bothered, I thought I would do them today,
only when I woke this morning it was raining
and so we now have indoor shots instead!
When we got the table it was in a sad state, one of the side pieces was broken where it attached to the leg. but I loved the lines and the feel, so felt it was worth redeeming.
VCH pulled it apart, made a new side piece and then glued it all back together again, even reattaching the fancy bit on the new piece.
Because the new piece didn't match the rest of the timber, I decided to paint it rather than stain it.
I used Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in "Shutter Grey" over the whole piece.

I then applied a little furniture wax to the edges of the top to give it a resistance to the paint before painting MMSMP in "Ironstone" on the top,

I also ran over the fancy bits in the white as well.

A light sand with some steel wool and a fine grade sandpaper gave it a nice little distressed feel to it.
To finish it off I applied MMS's hemp oil with a rag, I chose to use the hemp oil rather than a wax after a post by Miss Mustard Seed on how wax is not fantastic in the heat and well with our hot weather here I thought I would take her advice.
It has a lovely silky softness to it that gives it a beautiful feel.

I will be back soon with a review of the Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint and my tips for it's use.
