transformations

While the slaves oops children have been busy painting the house I have been busy painting furniture.

You saw my chairs I painted Tuesday, then yesterday I painted another pair of chairs.

                                                            

These were a garage sale find a few years ago, 

 they came with a table that I didn't particularly want but now can't do without,

 I also painted up this chair, it was one of the roadside finds from this years council clean-up.

I am deciding if I like this or if I want to continue the stripe right along or leave the french farmhouse stripe- not sure if it quite works?

What I didn't show you was Tuesday's amazing transformation of my dining room table.

 I am so in love with my "old" farmhouse kitchen table.

 It was a very quick and easy transformation.

It only took me a couple of hours. 

 I love the worn industrial look- 10 minutes with the electric sander after the kids painted the legs for me, 'cause the little ones wanted to paint something- so I let them.

I limed the top. 

First The Girl and I scrubbed the table thoroughly to make sure it was clean, then she "helped" me paint some white paint on the top, then I wiped it off while it was still wet.

I sanded over this as well to give it more of a scrubbed look and then rubbed in some beeswax furniture polish.

It has lightened up the room considerably.

I love distressing things I paint and while I was painting I contemplated the why's and wherefores.

Firstly I like it because it gives everything a great rustic very old look even if it's new.

Secondly it covers up my bad painting.

Lastly because when you paint something nice and new and 5 minutes after you have put it out in a house full of kids someone has scuffed up the paint and you think "oh no all my hard work and it is wrecked" - this way I don't notice and don't feel cross about it!
