shutter love

Today I thought I would share with you my love for shutters and how I have used them around my house.
I have picked these up at garage sales or op shops.

Truth be told shutters are as rare as hens teeth in Australia and these would more accurately be called louvre doors, and would come from cupboards rather than windows.

These are the first ones I bought,
I had no idea what I was going to do with them,
but as soon as I got them home this idea popped into my head and here they have been ever since.
I had an old screen door metal insert and they just seemed to go together.
It makes me think of a little French bistro scene when I look at them.

Just on the weekend VCH put these up for me on the toilet window on the other side of the back door,

 it balances it out nicely.
I am still after a lovely old bench to go at the back door, saw one at a garage sale recently- sadly it wasn't for sale, I am at the point of asking VCH to make me one!

I have had this single one hanging around for a while, moving from place to place, but for the moment it has found it's home in my lounge room.

This little one adds some interest on my veranda.
Though that plant is hiding my picnic baskets so it will have to be moved,
funny what things you notice when you look at photos!

Finally I am using this one to display some old family photos.

I hope you liked my little tour of the shutters in my home, I just love them to bits!

  10. Great uses, all! Your back door area with the shutters and the screen door insert is so sweet. I've been looking everywhere for one of those and there are never any for sale nor are there every any in the trash. I've been scoping some neighborhoods though and see that some people still have them at the front door. One day I may have to go up and knock on the door and ask if someone will sell me the one that's still attached!

  11. I love the old photos on the shutter! I had no idea shutters were rare in Australia - that explains why I've sold a lot of them there!

  20. I’m amazed at the number of shutters you have at home and how different their uses are. You certainly brought out the best in those shutters. And I agree that a bench would be perfect in your backyard, especially if it’s something that would go well with the shutters at the back.

    Regards,
    Katie

  21. Who would not want a shutter for a house? Shutters are perfect for doors and windows. Not only do they cover windows and doors, but they also add style and character to our home. Anyhow, these photographs are stunning and sublime!

  22. Thanks for your opinion on what kind of exterior wood shutters should be nice to design my house. Where do I buy a shutter that's durable and stylish? I want it installed in my house through their handyman too.

  23. How creative! Who would've thought old shutters would be fine as practical décor? I like its use on the last pic. In the absence of photo frame, have it hanged on the old window shutter and it would look just fine. I am thinking they could function as organizers too! Girls could just hook their collections of dangling earrings on there. John @ Nehemiah.com

  24. The first thing that you notice when you come to my house is the shutters on the windows and doors. They are a great way to update your home, as well as make it more secure. We have had our shutters for about 3 years now and they have been an amazing addition to our home. I love how sturdy they make our front door feel, but also how it gives us privacy in some of the rooms that we use frequently as the kitchen or living room!
