"For I know the plans I have for you,"
declares the Lord,
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.
JEREMIAH 29:11
For the last couple of years I have had a Bible verse that I claimed as mine for the year.
At the beginning of the year I had a verse in mind, but when I read the Scripture around it it wasn't quite right.
So I sat on it and decided that one would come, when the timing was right.
So I waited a whole month and still nothing then...
Each year our church's Growth Groups (Bible Study) start the year off with every group doing the same study, this year it is Tim Keller's Gospel Life.
The very first study has the verse from Jeremiah in it- when I read it I knew that this was it, this was my verse for the year.
I put it on the sidebar of my blog, I decided that this would be the first verse we learnt as a family this year.
What I didn't know was how it would occur again and again.
Every single Christian book I have read since then has had the verse in it, both fiction and non fiction- probably 6- 8 books now, it has come up in other things as well, like movies I watched.
How amazing is that!
It's like God's trying to tell me something!
Maybe, that I need to trust him wholeheartedly and let his will be done, maybe, that even when things go wrong they are all part of the plan and he will make them into something good?
I don't know?
But I am looking forward to seeing how this pans out.
We have now started learning the next couple of verses.
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
JEREMIAH 29:12-13
I bought a white liquid chalk pen this year and love it!
I have been using it to write stuff on mirrors and windows everywhere, in our space challenged study it is perfect for writing our memory verses on the window.
You can't see it that well in the photo so I got a little helper, B5, to hold up a board so I could take another photo, he is standing on the billy cart to get high enough to put the board up- we're all about safety here!
Oh, that's one of my favourite verses, and two years ago, I was a bit like you .... it seemed to pop up everywhere - sermons I heard, books I read, letters I got, a picture I was given as a gift and now have up on our wall....
ReplyDeleteat time, I would worry ... Is God preparing me for something? (Typical 'me' reaction). So, thanks for reminding me of this verse - I really do love it x
I love the idea of having a verse for the year and letting it work its way into your life.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your post today. This is one of my favorite verses, it means so much to me. It has been a verse I have clung to when life is crumbling around me, and things seem to just get worse. It is also a good reminder when things are going well, that I still need to trust Him, because He has a plan for my life. THanks!!
ReplyDeleteGreat Verse!
ReplyDeleteI love that verse! (Of course, I love all Bible verses). Love the chalk marker, love the window helper. Great thoughts, thanks. Lisa~
