the girl's new dress

This is the winter pinafore that I made for The Girl over the holidays.
Because it is so late in the season, I made it in a size 4 so hopefully it will still be big enough for her next winter.

 I put these little butterflies, cut out of the lining fabric, on the front with an iron-on fixative.
I was going to hand sew around them, but I hurt my shoulder and haven't been able to.
I will have to see how they hold up in the wash.

This is the inside lining.
One day I am going to make one of these pinnies fully reversable by taking the lining full length, but I need to remember before I cut it out!
I have enough of the inside fabric to make her a summer pinafore as well.

I also have some brown corduroy fabric for another one but it is a little darker than what I want- a dark chocolate rather than milk chocolate colour. 

I have been thinking about getting a little bit of fabric and experimenting with some bleach to see if I can lighten it a bit.

    I really love the dark chocolate corduroy with pink. I think they look great together so maybe you could have the dark chocolate brown with pink stockings and skivvy under.

    Yes, I do too, I remember brown and pink being a favourite combination back in the 70's, I remember my mum made me a brown and pink dressing gown. The problem is the brown is so dark it almost looks black, if I could get it a tad lighter it would be perfect. I have a pretty pink fabric to contrast with it.

    I would try the bleach then. Maybe start with a small piece and see how much lighter it makes it. The other thing you could try is hanging it in the sun. Maybe that would fade it a bit.

    We have washed it several times and dried it in the sun, but it hasn't seemed to make a difference, I thought I would just cut a small piece off and experiment first.
