pool signs

I made some signs for my pool area a while ago, but I wasn't happy with them, I had painted the signs on some old fence palings that B2 cut and drilled holes in for me.
But I didn't think the white on the grey stood out enough so here is MARK II

I sanded the old letters off and painted the signs white and when the white was dry I sanded it a bit to make it look old.

Then I just handpainted the words and when they were dry I sanded again.

Here they are hung on the pool fence with some old twine I found in the shed.

busy busy busy

Hey, long time no see!
I am still alive and kicking- just in case you were wondering!
The reason behind my absence is due to our living out in the sticks-how can that be I hear you ask?
Well you see the thing is it means we can not get broadband internet we can only get satellite, wireless won't work either unless we buy an antenna, we have no mobile phone reception either (that's Australian for cell phone)- well to cut a long story short somehow or other we managed to use all our gigs up and the internet has been so slow that I couldn't even upload any piccies, hence no posts- so there you have it one of the small disadvantages of living out in the bush, the other one is insects- you get lots more out here than you do in town, but that's a whole other story.
Today is the start of a whole new month and so our speed is back up.
So what have we been up too?
Well it has been busy here at fivebrothersonesister.

VCH has started holidays- he doesn't go back until after Easter and we are starting our next big building project.
So this is our week that was:
Saturday: VCH and kids help out at church working bee

Host Teens for Truth BBQ and Pool party Saturday night.
VCH starts building while teens are partying.
Sunday: Church and VCH does some more building

Monday: more building, B1 mows Poppy's lawn, Gymnastics

Tuesday: Has the shed 90% finished B1, B2 and I go to our Growth Groups (Bible study) on Tuesday night
- Forgot to tell you that B1 got his Learner's Permit last Wednesday on his 16th birthday and is now busy chauffeuring me around so he can rack up the 120hrs in his log book to get his license in 12 months, including 20hrs of night driving- going to Bible study has taken on a whole new meaning!

Wednesday: Saw VCH finish shed and start building some new shelves for it- it is a little smaller than old one so we are doing some major decluttering!

Soccer training in the afternoon and a visit to see this new little person

Thursday and Friday: sorting out and moving things from old shed into new.

B1 starts his soccer season by refereeing two games tonight- some more driving!
Saturday is the start of the new soccer season so will be off to see some games in the morning and ferrying B1 to his refereeing commitments.

Next Monday we are off to the Gold Coast for a mini holiday- Wet'n'Wild, Seaworld and two nights staying at Seaworld Nara Resort- something we have never done before.
We will make a leisurely trip home on Wednesday and then get into some more building.

I have some projects to share and some great treasures found while cleaning out the shed, so I will schedule some posts for while we are away.

Don't forget to join me for Sentimental Saturday tomorrow.

if you're looking for me...

...you will probably find me here for the rest of summer (it is still hot here until mid to late April),
 relaxing in my pool cabana.

Come on in...

An old basket I picked up garage saling with some stripey towels I found on special, they are huge and soft and fluffy.
The wreath is one I used at Christmas now with a white starfish strung from it with string.

On top of the cupboard, some shells and frangipanis on a bamboo mat.

A little stack of grey beach rocks.
Driftwood strung with shells.

Looking along the bench seat.
The seat lifts up to store the pool noodles and kickboards etc.
We still need to get a piece of foam for the bottom, in the meantime some winter quilts are serving as padding.

The other side, shells, lantern and citronella candle.
the side cupboards are for towels etc.

Icy cold water and a couple of magazines on one of my little tables.

Mosquito net curtains, they keep the insects out and create a nice floating look.

Looking out towards the pool and the bush beyond.

Coming for a swim?

or if you don't feel like swimming you could relax on one of my deck chairs.

The only things  that I bought for this were: the curtains and wire from IKEA ($11 total) and the cushions from Big W ($19 each) and the striped towels from Coles ($10 each), I shopped the house for the rest of my decor.

cabana at night

It seems strange to be posting photos of the cabana at night when I haven't yet posted daytime photos.
.
I have to get a mattress made to fit along here so in the meantime I am using quilts that aren't on beds because its summer wrapped in a sheet.

Everything other than the stripy cushions was stuff I had.

I thought it would be nice to light the candles.

 The shadows are so pretty.

A fish pot I picked up garage saling years ago turned into a light.

I was up there reading this book- it's beautiful.

I picked the driftwood up at the beach on my birthday and knew just what to do with it.

cabana progress 2

VCH took the day off and put up the walls and roof on the cabana.

We ended up using pine tongue and groove boards for the cladding and the cost was much less, we just need to make sure it is well primed before painting.

Ready for the roof

The front sections boarded

The roof's on.
VCH painting the primer on.

He got up early and finished priming

The slaves oops I mean children painting the decking this morning supposedly before it got too hot, but we were all covered in sweat by the time we were finished and it was before 9am.

The Girl and B5 doing their bit.

We will go and do a second coat on the floor when the shade is on it this afternoon and I might even prime the inside.
We plan to build a day bed and two cupboards/ side tables along the back wall.
The seat on the day bed will lift up for storage of pool toys noodles etc and the side tables towels and other stuff.
It's coming along so quickly I am hoping to get it finished before my birthday (13th Feb) - maybe I should have a pool party!
