This week my little ongoing project was to fix the fridge in our entertaining area.
You can see it in the background here- look how rusty it is.
On the advice of the Bunnings guy I sanded it with wet dry paper and then applied a rust remover.
This is what the side looked like after,
And this is the front- amazing difference!
(the Bunnings guy then wanted me to put some other stuff on it, but I decided not to because it is after all just an outdoor fridge)
I then painted it with chalkboard paint using a brush and finished with a coat of chalk board spray paint.
When it is dry you need to rub it over with chalk and then wipe it off to prime it.
The finish is not perfect but for an old rusty outdoor fridge it's a great improvement.
Ready for some warm weather entertaining.
(when my kids saw this menu- they asked why we weren't actually having it for tea)

GREAT IDEA!
ReplyDeleteWow, great idea!
ReplyDeleteGotta love chalkboard paint...It's a terrific idea!
ReplyDeleteI love chalkboard paint and all the things that can be done with it....your frig idea is so fun!
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea! You can leave messages like, "Don't drink all the sodas," or "Please help yourself to the strawberries in the fridge." You are a clever one! :)
ReplyDeleteYes - I keep thinking it would be great in my actual kitchen with things like a list of leftovers to be eaten, or fruit and veg needing to be eaten, and of course the shopping list!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea for a garage fridge! Too bad I just got rid of my garage fridge...but it wasn't working, and probably making a big contribution to my large electricity bills!
ReplyDeleteLucky you had the smooth-type fridge and not the pebbly one like ours. How convenient to be able to use it as a chalkboard. Great idea. Jane F.
ReplyDeleteWhat a really fun idea! My boys would love something like this in our kitchen!

We have had a chalkboard fridge at the lake for years. The kids love it and won't let me replace it! Even the teenagers! :)
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a pebbly type fridge, we only have smooth fridges in Australia
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful makeover for your outdoor fridge! I looove it! It sure took care of the rust and it's so useful too! If you have a minute, you'll have to check out my MM. I think you'll get a kick out of it, we were on the same wave length!!! Debbie @ Cottage Hann~Me~Downs
ReplyDeleteIt looks great -- and the BBQ sounds amazing! :-)
