This term we are looking at European Countries for geography.
Last week we did Italy and this week Spain, next week is Germany.
Tuesday is our Geography Day so after Morning Tea and read alouds they do a short trip to that country.
We find where it is, draw a map and a flag and look up other bits of information on that country: capital, industry, tourist attractions, surrounding countries etc.
They record this in their "Geography Mappers" book. Then in the afternoon we cook a meal from that country. Last week we dined in Italy.
We had an Antipasto Platter (we did our own marinated vegetables, and bruschetta) then we made pasta from scratch and had a spinach and ricotta sauce (using the spinach from our garden) and to finish a Cassata (ice cream cake).
This week we looked at Spain and cooked a Chorizo and Potato Tortilla, Red Onion and Orange Salad and Stuffed Tomatoes.
For dessert we had Apple Empanadas.
Next week we are visiting Germany and plan to have Mustard Pork Chops, Hot Potato Salad, Cucumber and Dill Salad, a Carrot Salad and to finish an Apple Strudel.
While we are eating I quiz the boys on what they know about each country, which I am finding is a great way of reinforcing what they have learnt during the day. While cooking our Spanish meal B1 was telling all about the farming practices in Spain, not bad for a quick one hour study on a country.

This is a great way to get around the world!
