winter jewels

It's winter here in Oz and very cold- well we think it's cold!
(though if you live in Northern Alaska you might think it's summer!)
The grass is looking brown from the frost and the colours in my garden are looking dull, so I thought I would brighten things up in my kitchen by adding some jewel colours to my display cabinets.

Here is a far away look at them in all their glory.
(you might notice a slight spot on the top left hand corner of my photos from the last couple of days, I noticed too, someone must have put a finger on the lens of the camera and left a smudge- it has since been cleaned and while I should go back and take some more photos I can't at the moment and I will explain why presently)
On the left I just put in some bright coloured glass water bottles.

On the right is as usual a collect all bowl, some ice cream soda glasses in pink and green with orange straws and above them a blue bowl and a red fondue pot.
On top of both cupboards I put some kids watering cans.
The drinking straws match as well, co-incidentally I might add.

I put some bottles on the window sill.
The one in the middle is clear with food colouring added to the water to make it purple.

The corner- just wondering if I should replace my cutlery frames with something bright- what do you think???

A punch bowl full of oranges also makes the kitchen brighter.

These tea towels I bought at Christmas time to use as part of a present only to get them home to find that they are half the normal size - who would make such silly sized tea towels??
These are obviously just for display!

I popped this chair here as a little place to sit and rest when I am on a cooking frenzy.

Now the reason why I can't take any more photos, two of these drawers are off getting fixed, as well as some of the other drawer fronts.
We got our kitchen nearly 4 years ago now and after about 6 months we noticed some of the edge strips coming off, the kitchen company was very apologetic and immediately fixed them, then some more lifted, and they fixed it again- they have never worked out why this happened as it has never happened to any one else.
They think either the machine was not heated up enough as it was a cold winter's morning when they put them on or the glue on the edging was faulty.
Anyway, the other day I had the owner out to give me a quote for some new laundry cupboards (you know when you have been in a house for a long time when you are renovating renovations) and he took the drawers off to be fixed when he left.

If you would like to see some more of my kitchen displays click here and here and here.
I love changing up my display even few months and using stuff I already own gathered from around my house.

  2. I just love that you can change the colors in your kitchen so easily. Genius! I think something pink on the counter would be great, but I like it the way it is also.

I was so glad to read the reason you can't take new pictures. I was worried the whole post that you were sick or got hurt so you couldn't take pictures. Whew! I hope the new drawers return in perfect condition. Lisa~
