practise cake and party prep

The Girl is having her very first birthday party on Saturday.
A Garden Tea Party.
It will be out in the paddock in the shade of the banksia trees.
I have been gathering ideas for months, years even- I always knew this would be the theme of her first party.

Her cake is going to be covered in these rosettes, so I thought I should practice first.
I thought the ideal place to practice would be on her cake that I made for her actual birthday.

It was heart shaped of course being Valentines Day, the tin is a very old one that was a hand-me-down from my mum, not that I ever remember her once making a heart shaped cake!

I iced the GF chocolate cake in a white chocolate ganache first- next time I am going to colour it pink.
I filled in the gaps with little rosettes, but remembered after that I should have just done an extra swirl around the large rosette, thankfully it was only the practise model.
I also ran out of icing that was OK too- I will make heaps for the actual cake.

Here it is with the candles lit.

Here is everyone with The Girl and the cake- except me of course I was taking the photo!

Here it is served with some yummy dairy free, refined sugar free choc chip ice cream that I made in my ice cream maker (attachment for my Kitchen Aid VCH gave me for my birthday)

Today will be very busy with lots of cooking and last minute party prep.
Here is the link to my pinterest page choc full of ideas:

I will be back next week with party pictures and some more of our beach holiday.
